Welcome to Metrolina Lawn Guide—your trusted resource for practical, real-world lawn advice across the Charlotte and Metrolina region. Whether you’re starting from scratch or just want a few new tricks to stay ahead of the neighbors, you’re in the right place.
NOTE: The information on this site is tailored for Tall Fescue and other cool-season grasses common in the Charlotte, NC (Zone 8a) region. These recommendations are not intended for warm-season lawns such as zoysia or bermuda.
Why Metrolina Lawn Guide?
I was tired of paying for lawn services and still ending up with a patchy, disappointing yard. The Charlotte metro is one of the toughest places in the country for year-round curb appeal. Why? We’re in Zone 8a—the infamous Transition Zone. Northern grasses can’t handle our hot, humid summers. Southern grasses go dormant all winter. Combine that with poor soil, wild weather swings, fungus, grubs, and more, and you’re left fighting a constant uphill battle.
National lawn guides don’t address our unique challenges. Big box stores rarely stock the right products. After hiring a reputable lawn service with little to show for it, I decided to dive in and learn it myself. My lawn isn’t perfect, but it is the best one on the block. When neighbors started asking for advice, I realized there was a need for practical, region-specific guidance—so I created this site to share what works here in Metrolina.

The Goal
I don’t have a perfect lawn, but it looks way better than before I started. My goal is simple: help you get real results and enjoy the process, without over-complicating things or telling you to buy stuff you don’t need.
And one important note: just because you do everything right, doesn't mean your lawn will be perfect. Far from it. Mother Nature has a way of constantly challenging us. So you should expect this site to help you become more informed, not to achieve perfection.
